In a meeting with Supreme Leader's representative in universities and his accompany delegates including provincials managers of the representative offices of the Supreme Leader in the universities, Grand Ayatollah Noori Hamedani (may he live long) made a reference to the verse 105 of chapter 21 of the Quran where it says:
«وَ لَقَدْ كَتَبْنا فِي الزَّبُورِ مِنْ بَعْدِ الذِّكْرِ أَنَّ الْأَرْضَ يَرِثُها عِبادِيَ الصَّالِحُونَ»
"And certainly We wrote in the Book after the reminder that (as for) the land, My righteous servants shall inherit it." (Quran 21:105)
His Eminence said that the biggest task one has to undertake in his life is to learn how to become a good human being because every individual who sets foot on the earth is not but unripe and immature being.
He went on speaking about various factors responsible for character development. "Knowledge, reason, commitment, God-wariness (piety) and practice are among the factors that are highly effective in the construction of man's character. Man should seek and acquire knowledge, and he should distinguish truth from falsehood with the power of his intellect," His Eminence stressed.
Grand Ayatollah Noori Hamedani emphasized that the sciences which are learned and taught in the universities be Islamic. "We have been under colonialism for a long time, and western sciences were taught in our country's universities but today the Islamic sciences must be extracted from the Quranic verses and prophetic traditions and the youths must be educated and trained based on them."
Elaborating on the role of teachers in academic centers, His Eminence said that the teacher plays a key and central role in the nurture and development of students as evidenced in religious sources. "Today, we must create an inductive atmosphere governed by religious thought and Islamic culture," he stressed.
His Eminence further said that the Islamic revolution has led to metamorphic developments in the world and that late Imam Khomeini's movement brought shivers to the arrogant powers and caused the oppressed and the deprived people to become hopeful towards the future. "Islamic awakening is on the rise day in and day out but then there are people out in the country's universities who speak inappropriate words about the Islamic government," His Eminence concluded.
